Remarks from SC Military Base Task Force Chairman Bill Bethea
Veterans, the South Carolina Military Base Task Force salutes you this Veterans Day. We appreciate you every day, but November 11 is a special day to honor the commitment, sacrifices, and patriotism of the more than 420,000 South Carolina military veterans living in our state. Our indebtedness to your service is immeasurable. Your commitment to freedom required sacrifices to protect and defend our nation. Therefore, we enthusiastically salute the current and former members of our Armed Services: the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. South Carolina is a better place because you choose to live here, and the MBTF is committed to supporting your quality of life.
Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living and those who made the ultimate sacrifice—who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. Each November 11 we celebrate Veterans Day, initially commemorated to honor the Armistice for World War I: the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. This year 11 AM on November 11, 2018, marks the century that has passed since the cessation of hostilities in the “Great War.” We join citizens of the world who annually observe two minutes of silence at 11 AM every November 11 and will recognize all who have served with celebrations in communities from the mountains to the sea.
