At a news conference at the Lexington Veterans Memorial today, Governor Henry McMaster joined the call for a full exemption of state taxes on military retirement income.
“There’s no way we will ever be able to repay these men and women in uniform for the true value they add to our state and our community, but this is one example of how we can show our gratitude and appreciation for their service,” said Governor McMaster. “This income tax exemption on retirement pay will reaffirm the unwavering commitment of South Carolinians to these people who have chosen to serve.”
The Governor also called for similar exemptions for law enforcement, firefighters and peace officers.
The Military Base Task Force certainly welcomes the Governor’s support of the continuing efforts to allow our state to become the 30th state in the country that does not tax military retirement income.
